Byron Browne is known as a pioneer of early Abstraction in America. He trained at the National Academy of Design in New York from 1925-1928. It was at the Gallery of Living Art that he discovered the work of such masters as Juan Gris, Miro, and Braque. These renowned artists would become his strongest influences on his career. Browne became a staunch supporter of the Abstract movement in America, and in 1936 was a founding member of the American Abstract Artists. Amongst his friends and close colleagues, Browne included John Graham, Willem DeKooning and Arshile Gorky. He exchanged great inspiration with these artists, as they all did from the entire Abstract Expressionist movement, believing that art was connected to nature, even in abstraction. From his WPA murals of the 1930's through the 1950's, Browne executed an accomplished body of work. His last years were devoted almost entirely to pure abstraction.

Byron Browne is considered an Abstractionist although he never devoted his work to one specific "ism". He would not allow himself to stop exploring new ideas yet he always returned to non-objective works. Browne was fascinated by nature, music, Spanish iconography, and circus themes. He possessed a hunger to discover "the new", and held a positive view of the world

Byron Browne's work is exhibited at museums nationally including the Whitney and Smithsonian. It is licensed to be shown in only a few select galleries in the United States.
